Learn to Lifeguard

If you want to be a lifeguard or need to renew your lifeguard certification, head to the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center this December. The center is once again holding American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and recertification courses.

Students must be 15 years old by the last day of the course and pass a prescreen test — a 300-yard continuous swim, with rhythmic breathing, using front crawl or breast stroke; a 10-pound brick retrieval within one minute, 14 seconds; and treading water for two minutes.

To register for the lifeguard training course, which runs Dec. 26-30, visit rockenroll.rockvillemd.gov and enter course #56568. For Dec. 17 and 18’s recertification, enter #56569.
