Mayor and Council to Hold Public Hearing on Filling Seat Vacancies

The Mayor and Council will hold second public hearings, Monday, Dec. 10, on amendments to the city code and charter that would clarify the process necessary to fill a mayor or councilmember vacancy.

The changes would specify requirements for a special election, including when that provision would be triggered, and when the Mayor and Council would instead have authority to select someone to fill the vacant seat. The first hearings were held on Nov. 19.

To testify Dec. 10, call 240-314-8280 by 4 p.m. the day before the hearings or by submitting testimony in writing to [email protected] or City Clerk’s Office/Director of Council Operations, City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave., Rockville, MD 20850.

Rockville Mayor and Council meetings are broadcast live on channel 11 on county cable systems, live streamed at www.rockvillemd.gov/rockville11 and available a day after the meeting at www.rockvillemd.gov/videoondemand.
