Erin Fincher, a digital and design specialist, has been on the job since June 17. We asked her to answer a few questions to introduce her to the community.
What’s a digital and design specialist?
A
digital and design specialist is a designer who specializes in digital
media rather than print. That means web, apps, social media, email,
digital ads – anything you see on a screen. We’re responsible for
designing how digital products work, in addition to how they look, and
how they impact our brand image and experience.
Where were you before coming to Rockville?
Most recently I worked at a tech startup in Virginia, but I previously worked in the nonprofit and government sectors.
How does a designer help the city tell its story?
More
and more frequently, people’s experiences with local government are
happening digitally rather than in print or in person. A digital
designer makes sure that those experiences build trust and a positive
association with a city’s brand. Day to day, my work for the city
involves designing graphics and layouts for both digital and print
communications like email, social media, the web, fliers, posters and
brochures. The next big project I’m looking forward to is refreshing the
city’s visual brand.
