Jane Lyons-Raeder joined Rockville’s Department of Community Planning and Development Services in September. We asked her a few questions to introduce her to the community.
What did you do before joining the city?
I was the Maryland Advocacy Manager for the Coalition for Smarter Growth. There, I led advocacy campaigns around affordable housing, public transit and land use issues. To do that work, I collaborated with many partners, including neighborhood groups and community nonprofits.
What does your position entail?
As a principal planner within Comprehensive Planning, I’m working to implement the Rockville 2040 Comprehensive Plan, the city’s long-range plan for growth and development. Right now, I’m working on projects to create a new master plan for Rockville Town Center, establish design guidelines for the Lincoln Park neighborhood and establish an accessory dwelling unit ordinance.
What else can you tell us about yourself?
I’m a proud alumna of the University of Maryland, College Park, and went there for both my undergraduate and master’s degrees. Go Terps!
