Staff from the city’s Department of Public Works will host a public meeting to present information about a project to construct an entrance to the Rockville Senior Center from West Gude Drive.
The meeting will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19 in the Mayor and Council chamber at City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave.
The project would create a more convenient access point to the senior center from north of West Gude Drive and west of I-270 and would reduce traffic on residential roads in the Woodley Gardens neighborhood. The city is designing a new access road entrance to the center’s parking lot from the intersection of West Gude and Piccard drives, with modifications to the traffic signal to facilitate this new leg to the intersection. Currently, there is no access to the center from West Gude Drive.
The project, which is in accordance with the city’s site plan development process, also includes pavement, drainage, possible utility relocation, stormwater management, signage and landscaping. A gate/barrier system will prevent cut-through traffic between the new West Gude Drive entrance and the existing entrance on Carnation Drive. The project will relocate a stone statue and concrete pad on the center’s grounds and will incorporate modern environmental site design techniques.
