Mentoring Program Seeks to
Connect Mentors and Students

Mentoring can be a rewarding experience for both teacher and student.
Mentoring can be a rewarding experience for both teacher and student.

Rockville’s mentoring program can be as worthwhile for the mentors as it is for the young people whose lives those mentors influence. The program for the 2015-2016 school year was a success with 57 children and mentors.

The program is searching for high school students (age 16 and older) and adults to offer guidance, friendship and encouragement to elementary school students. No special skills are required, just a willingness to devote an hour a week from October to May to work with a child. Volunteers are screened and interviewed before the program begins.

Mentors receive training before they start and coaching and support along the way. Student Service Learning credits are available to high school students. The program is run by the city’s Community Services Division in partnership with the county school system.
