Musicals and Summer Evening Concerts: What’s New in Rockville Entertainment

Rockville Musical Theatre presents “Into the Woods”
8 p.m. June 30, July 1, 7, 8, 14 and 15. 2 p.m. July 9 and 16. A baker and his wife’s wish for a child lead them into the woods on a magical journey to reverse a curse. Along the way they meet two princes, Red Riding Hood, Jack (and the Beanstalk), Rapunzel and Cinderella, each pursuing their own wish, in Stephen Sondheim’s magical tale of love, adventure and consequences. Directed by Erin Bone Steele.

Rockville Concert Band presents “Summer Evening of Pops”
7 p.m. Sunday, July 9 at Rockville Town Square. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the outdoor concert. Directed by Juan Gallastegui. In the case of inclement weather, call 240-314-8681 after 5 p.m. to find out about cancellation status.

Glenview Mansion Art Gallery
The Rockville Art League exhibit, Essence of Summer Show, will be on view at the gallery from July 2 to Sept. 1.

The Americans with Disabilites-accessible gallery, on the second floor of Glenview Mansion, is open 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and closed on official city holidays.

Rockville Civic Ballet presents “Coppelia”
7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 22; 2 p.m. Sunday, July 23. A delightful ballet of pranks and puppetry. Directed by Eleanor Simpson and Erin Kwong. Tickets are $17; $13 for children 12 and younger and seniors 60 and older. Group rates are $16.50 for seven or more adult tickets and $12.50 for 10 or more children/senior tickets.

Victorian Lyric Opera Company presents “The Sorcerer”
8 p.m. Aug. 31 and Sept. 2. Rich but witless Alexis is betrothed to the beautiful Aline. After a vision, he plots to bring the joy of marriage to the entire town at his wedding ceremony.

Tickets cost $28, $26 for seniors 65 and older, and $24 for students. Presented in conjunction with the 7th Great Gilbert and Sullivan Sing Out.
