The city recently installed seven new bus shelters to add to the comfort and accessibility of bus stops with high ridership along Rockville Pike, Veirs Mill Road and Taft Street, adjacent to David Scull Park.
As part of furthering the city’s progress towards its goal of promoting multiple modes of transportation, the shelters were installed at the following high-activity bus stops:
• Eastbound Taft Street at East Gude Drive.
• Westbound Veirs Mill Road at Nimitz Avenue.
• Eastbound Veirs Mill Road at First Street.
• Northbound Rockville Pike at Woodmont Station shopping center.
• Northbound Rockville Pike at Wintergreen Plaza.
• Northbound Rockville Pike at New Street.
• Eastbound Veirs Mill Road at Broadwood Drive.
“A good bus shelter is an essential part of any successful mass-transit system and can increase attractiveness of transit by making waiting for a bus a more pleasant experience,” said Oleg Kotov, a senior transportation planner with the city.
There are 445 bus stops within Rockville’s city limits served by Metrobus and Ride On. Eighty-five are equipped with passenger shelters.
