The Glenview Mansion Art Gallery will hold its opening reception for October from 1:30-3:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9. Works on display are Warren Kornberg’s photography, comic illustration by Samuel Sharpe and B.D. Richardson’s black and white photography.
The reception will feature acoustic guitarist and vocalist Joseph Monasterial. Performing crossover styles and original songs, Monasterial writes and plays an eclectic blend of tunes.
The art gallery is open 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday. The event is free to attend.

Rockville Concert Band to Celebrate Heroes
Music Director John Saint Amour will conduct the Rockville Concert Band’s “Heroes and Olympians” — music that puts people on a pedestal or podium — beginning at 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 16.
The Rockville Concert Band, a well-established performing arts group of 75 adult volunteers, is an opportunity for residents to perform in or attend a high-caliber performance. Performances are held at F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre.

October’s Shows at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre
“Shrek the Musical” and “The Bohemian Girl” will fill the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre with song and dance throughout October.
At 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, and at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9, the Victorian Lyric Opera Company will present “The Bohemian Girl,” an opera in three acts by Michael W. Balfe, with a libretto by Alfred Bunn.
The story is set in 17th-century Poland, and tells the story of Arline, the Bohemian girl, who is in love with Thaddeus, a Polish nobleman and political exile. The story of “The Bohemian Girl” is told in three acts and is based on a short story by Spanish novelist Miguel de Cervantes, titled “La Gitanilla” (The Gypsy Girl).
Tickets: $28 adults; $24 seniors; $20 students.
Rockville Musical Theatre will present “Shrek the Musical,” a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film. “Shrek the Musical” brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage, and proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears.
Performances will be held at 8 p.m., Oct. 28 and 29, Nov. 4, 5, 11 and 12; and at 2 p.m., Oct. 30, Nov. 5, 6 and 13.
