Path to Connect Falls Road Schools, Bus Route

The city is expected to complete construction this winter on a missing segment of a shared-use path that will improve pedestrian and bicycle safety along the east side of Falls Road between Dunster and Kimblewick roads.

This segment of Falls Road requires walking on a shoulder that is about 1 foot wide, or through grass. Bicycling requires using the lane of a busy arterial road. The shared-use path will provide a safer route for nonmotorized users connecting to Ritchie Park Elementary School, St. Raphael Catholic Church and School, and a Metrobus line along the east side of Falls Road.

Construction is ongoing along state right of way and does not impact any homes or buildings. Impacts are limited to periodic lane closures on Falls Road through the construction zone.

The project is a part of the city’s efforts to create a continuous recreation and transportation system in Rockville.
