Peerless Honors Preservation, Restoration and Education

Annual Awards Celebrate Rockville’s Heritage

The 37th annual Peerless Rockville awards ceremony, held Nov. 18 at Glenview Mansion at Rockville Civic Center Park, recognized efforts to preserve Rockville’s historic and architectural character through projects, activities or programs. This year’s winners were:

  • Alvin Aubinoe, owner, for the preservation and restoration of 107 W. Jefferson St.
  • Jeanne Gartner, winner of the Wagman Award for Educational Excellence, for her blog on the history of the Reed Brothers Dodge auto dealership (reedbrothersdodgehistory.wordpress.com).
  • Higgins Cemetery Association (www.higginscemeterymaryland.org) for the stewardship, restoration and preservation of the Higgins Cemetery, at 5720 Arundel Ave.
  • Bob Hines, social studies teacher at Richard Montgomery High School, for education and outreach.
  • New Mark Commons Homes Association (newmarkcommons.org) for the preservation and stewardship of their community.
  • Charles K. Nulsen III, of Washington Property Company, for adaptive reuse of 4 Research Place.
  • Pepco Watershed Sustainability Center (www.pepco.com/community-commitment/watershed-sustainability-center/) for new construction, sustainable design, landscape design and education.

Peerless Rockville is an award-winning, community-based nonprofit founded in 1974 to preserve buildings, objects, and information important to Rockville’s heritage.
