Planning Commission to Hear
About Housing Needs

Regional housing expert Lisa Sturtevant will brief the Rockville Planning Commission at its Dec. 14 meeting on current and future housing needs in Rockville.

Sturtevant is completing an in-depth assessment of housing market conditions in Rockville, with a special focus on the challenges for residents with lower incomes.

The study, once complete, will guide the city on programs or tools to help address housing challenges. It will outline a framework to understand and address long-term housing challenges as Rockville develops an updated housing element of its Comprehensive Master Plan.

The city received substantial input on housing from attendees of its Rockville 2040 outreach. At Rockville 2040 citywide meetings held last spring, attendees developed a series of draft policies. City staff will take these ideas, together with results from the housing study, and develop a draft housing element for public review.

The Planning Commission meeting begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall and will be live streaming at www.rockvillemd.gov/rockville11. Video of the meeting will also be available on demand one day after the meeting at www.rockvillemd.gov/videoondemand.
