Depending on fall weather, roadway improvements could be coming soon along Beall Avenue, dramatically changing the look of the street for drivers, riders and pedestrians.
Rockville, in partnership with VisArts, was among 25 cities in the U.S., Canada and Mexico chosen from an extensive pool of 200 applicants that have been awarded Asphalt Art Initiative grants through Bloomberg Philanthropies.
A $25,000 grant from the Bloomberg Asphalt Art Initiative will be used for the project in addition to Rockville’s Art in Public Places funding. The grant will be used to enhance Beall Avenue between Maryland Avenue and North Washington Street in Rockville Town Center.
The project, which is the first of its kind for the city, aims to improve safety and make the street more attractive for residents, visitors and businesses through a mural created directly in the street.
