Ready or Not for the Holidays, F. Scott Theater has Something for All

The F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre begins to gear up for the holiday season with performances of “White Christmas” and “A Christmas Carol.” But if you’re not ready for the festivities quite yet, you can celebrate our veterans with the Heart of Maryland Chorus, enjoy a classic pops concert or get into the “Gypsy Spirit” with the Washington Balalaika Society, instead! (And don’t forget to mark your calendars for “The Nutcracker” in early December.)

“White Christmas” presented by Rockville Musical Theatre. Veterans Bob Wallace and Phil Davis have a successful song-and-dance act after World War II. With romance in mind, the two follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters en route to their Christmas show at a Vermont lodge. 8 p.m. Nov. 3, 4, 10 and 11; 2 p.m. on Nov. 5 and 12. Tickets cost $22; $20 for students and seniors.

At 1 p.m. on Nov. 11, the Heart of Maryland Chorus presents “Let Freedom Ring!” — a tribute to our veterans and active-duty military presented in the traditional USO show style. The Sweet Adelines women’s chorus sings four-part a cappella harmony in the barbershop style with featured guests Misfire, a men’s Barbershop Harmony Society quartet, the Fugitive Brass Quintet, Gottaswing Dancers and others. Tickets are $15, general admission.

“Gypsy Spirit,” presented by Washington Balalaika Society. Enjoy Russian folk instruments – balalaikas, domras, gusli, bayan – and more. Features Peter Omelchenko and Andrei Saveliev. 8 p.m. Nov. 18. General admission tickets are $25; $20 for seniors and $15 for students. Children 12 and younger are free.

Hope Garden Ballet Theatre presents “A Christmas Carol.” Set in 1840s London, “A Christmas Carol” is an original ballet interpretation of Dickens’ novel and was named in DC Metro Theater Arts’ Best of 2015 – Best Children’s/Family Productions. Tickets cost $22 for adults and $19 for seniors, military members, students and children. 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Nov. 25.

Rockville Concert Band performs “Bach, Beethoven and the Boys!” A classic pops concert, at 3 p.m. Nov. 19. Conducted by Music Director John A. Saint Amour. No tickets required but a $5 donation is suggested. For more information, visit www.rockvilleconcertband.org.

Rockville Civic Ballet presents “The Nutcracker,” directed by Eleanor Simpson. Join Clara on her magical journey! 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2 and 9; 2 p.m. Dec. 3 and 10. Tickets are $17 for adults, $13 children (12 and younger) and seniors 60 and older.
