REDI Announces Grants for Retail Façade Improvements

Rockville retailers can apply for up to $5,000 in a matching grant to improve their building’s exterior façade, through the Rockville Economic Development, Inc.’s latest business incentive program.

The Retail Façade Improvement Grant Program offers reimbursement of up to 50 percent of project costs, capped at $5,000 per property, for cosmetic improvements such as lighting, paint, awnings, doors, windows, signs, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant access ramps, landscaping and other exterior projects.

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development provides funding for the grants through its Community Legacy Program. To qualify, applicants must be a current owner, landlord or tenant of a retail property located within the City of Rockville’s Sustainable Communities areas.

“The Retail Façade Improvement Grant Program provides financial assistance to renovate, update and/or rebrand local retail properties,” said REDI board chair Paul Newman. “It is an excellent opportunity for older retail locations with tight budgets to invest in the look of their properties, making them more attractive and inviting to customers. REDI is grateful to the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development for this funding, which showcases the City of Rockville’s commercial strengths.”

Applicants must submit the required documentation verifying the property location, current Rockville business license, photos of the existing building conditions, proposed improvements, costs and insurance verifications. REDI will review applications and determine eligibility. Eligible applications will be forwarded to DHCD for review and funding determination.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis through May 30. Applications and details can be found on the web at bit.ly/2mRVXHM.
