Rockville Honored for a 34th Time for Its Budget Presentation

The city’s Department of Finance in September earned the Government Finance Officers Association’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for Rockville’s FY 2025 Adopted Budget.

FY25 Adopted Budget Cover

This is the 34th time the city has received the award. It includes special recognition in three categories: Budget Process, Capital Program and Financial Policies.

“While we have received special recognition in previous years, it is a remarkable feat to obtain special recognition in three categories,” City Manager Jeff Mihelich said in announcing the award to staff.

“The award represents a significant achievement by the entity,” GFOA said in a news release. “It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.” To receive the award, the city met nationally recognized guidelines for assessing how well the budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.

Reviewers of the city’s budget wrote that “The city appears to be positively positioned to move the community forward. The city’s fiscal future looks bright,” and, “The Performance Management system is exemplary and meets all appropriate standards for productivity and management.”
