Earlier this year, Rockville raised more than 190 flags of United Nations countries across Rockville Town Center in an international display. Now, Rockville’s residents and visitors can find each flag’s location easily with a handy, mobile-friendly online map.

The “Flags Over Rockville Webapp” map is searchable by flag or country name. The map was created in response to feedback from the public, who wanted to know where each flag was flying.

The idea for the flags came from a town hall, held Feb. 9, to discuss diversity. Community members suggested that a display of flags would colorfully and recognizably represent Rockville’s international appeal. More than a third of the city’s residents were born outside the U.S., according to Census data.
