City of Rockville planning staff will present an amended Rockville Pike Neighborhood Plan to the Mayor and Council for their consideration at the Monday, July 18, weekly meeting.

A finalized plan is scheduled for a decision by the Mayor and Council at their Monday, Aug. 1, meeting.

Mayor and Council meetings held May 23, June 6 and June 13 generated numerous updates and edits to a draft plan approved in March by the city’s Planning Commission. Parts of the plan reviewed included the Rockville Pike cross section, the pedestrian and bicycle environment, community centers and indoor spaces, parks and open space, building heights, affordable housing, mixed uses and other topics.

Under state law, the Mayor and Council have until Wednesday, Aug. 10, to make a final decision on the plan. Monday, Aug. 1, is the last Mayor and Council meeting before summer break, and the last opportunity to make a decision on the plan.

State law allows the Mayor and Council to approve the plan, send the plan back to the Planning Commission for additional work, amend and approve the plan, or reject it. They can also take no action, in which case the Planning Commission’s plan is automatically adopted Aug. 10 as part of the city’s comprehensive master plan.
