The Rockville Science Center will present Temple Grandin, the world-renowned animal behavior expert and autism awareness advocate, for a special presentation at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7 at The Music Center at Strathmore, in North Bethesda.
Grandin, a professor of animal science at Colorado State University, and the subject of an Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning 2010 film by HBO, will share her insights on the humane handling of animals as they interact with humans.
Tickets are $35 or $50 and are available at www.strathmore.org/events-and-tickets/temple-grandin. Proceeds benefit the Rockville Science Center.
Grandin has written extensively about autism, detailing how her ability to see in pictures has allowed her to understand the sensory perceptions of different species and address their needs. She will discuss how she applies sensory-based thinking to consult worldwide for groups as diverse as research scientists, slaughterhouses, pet trainers and children on the autism spectrum.
Grandin’s many media appearances include “60 Minutes,” “20/20,” “48 Hours,” “Larry King Live” and “Primetime Live.” She has been featured in “The New York Times,” “U.S. News and World Report” and “People.” In 2010, “Time” magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
