Officers Recognized for Bravery, Service and Saving Lives
Seven members of the Rockville City Police Department were honored for their service to the community at the 29th annual Rockville Public Safety Awards on Wednesday, June 13 at Lakewood Country Club.
Each year, members of public safety agencies that serve the City of Rockville are recognized for their outstanding service. Since 1990, 538 awards have been presented to members of Rockville’s public safety agencies, civilians and K-9 partners.
This year, 28 members of the Rockville City Police Department, Rockville Volunteer Fire Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation were honored for their service. Rockville City Police Department members were honored with the following awards:
The Citation for Bravery, presented to a member of a public safety organization, or the civilian community, for an act of bravery beyond the call of duty, wherein the member’s physical safety was exposed to danger in order to save the life of another, or to perform an extraordinary and heroic public safety duty.
Sgt. Andy Taglienti and Cpl. Eddie Roman, for climbing, with firefighters, onto a roof and rescuing a woman who was attempting to jump.
The Distinguished Service Citation, presented to a member of a public safety organization, or a civilian, who served beyond the ordinary call of duty. It recognizes diligence, perseverance and timely judgement in the performance of a difficult task that resulted in the protection of life or property, the prevention of a major crime, or the apprehension of an armed and dangerous criminal.
Cpl. Kyle Dickerson, Cpl. Steven Malko and Officer Daniel Morozewicz, for responding to, evacuating and maintaining order at an apartment complex where an intoxicated and irate man was holding two people against their will.
The Lifesaving Award, presented to an employee who contributes to the saving of a human life by rescue or through the administration of first aid.
Cpl. Jonathan Lally, Cpl. Steven Malko and Officer Brandon Thomas, for responding to an unsecure scene and saving the life of a man who had been stabbed.
