Sixth Season of Town Square Ice Rink Showcases Local Artist’s Work

A colorful abstract work by local artist and VisArts instructor Emily Eisinger will span the length of Rockville Town Square’s 120-foot ice rink this season.

Eisinger’s design, titled “A Rendered Edge,” was inspired by “Luminarium” by Cecilia Lueza, a public artwork on the corner of the Arts and Innovation Center, where VisArts is housed. Eisinger’s piece was digitally printed on eight separate sections of vinyl, which were installed on the rink.

“The final design introduces bright, colorful gradients moving through slick transitions before fading into white,” Eisinger stated in a press release from Federal Realty Investment Trust. The project was conceived by VisArts, which partnered with the City of Rockville, FRIT and TriState Ice Management to engage the artist. “My design is intended to reach beyond just the skaters on the ice and truly enhance the look and feel of the square as a festive destination for this wonderfully diverse community,” Eisinger said.

The artwork will be officially presented during Rockville Town Square’s 10th anniversary celebration from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3. Guests will be able to view the ice rink art from the VisArts rooftop.
