Public Hearing and Web Provide Early Opportunities to Speak Out About the FY18 Budget

Community members will have an early opportunity to provide ideas for Rockville’s Fiscal Year 2018 budget during a public hearing on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

This special Tuesday meeting of the Mayor and Council begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave. It will gather input for the development of the operating budget and Capital Improvements Program for Fiscal Year 2018, which begins July 1.

Anyone wishing to testify, including representatives of the city’s boards, commissions and local nonprofits, should call 240-314-8280 before 4 p.m. on the date of the hearing to have their names placed on the speakers’ list.

The city manager is scheduled to present the proposed budget during the Mayor and Council meeting on Monday, Feb. 27. Additional budget hearings are scheduled for Mayor and Council meetings at 7 p.m. on Mondays, March 6, March 20 and April 3.

The budget hearings will be carried live on channel 11 on county cable systems, broadcast via live streaming at www.rockvillemd.gov/rockville11 and available a day after each hearing at www.rockvillemd.gov/videoondemand/agendacenter.

Rockville’s adopted operating budget for the current fiscal year totals $126.3 million. The Mayor and Council are scheduled to adopt the FY 2018 budget in May.
