The Fitzgerald Theater in September: Stand Up and Sing, and Stand Up Against Hate

“The 6th Great Gilbert & Sullivan Sing-Out,” presented by the Victorian Lyric Opera Company.

9 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1; 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 2.

Raise your voice and help the VLOC celebrate its 40th anniversary by singing through the complete musical scores of all 13 intact Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.

The sing-out honors the immortal operettas created by the partnership of librettist William S. Gilbert, and composer Arthur Sullivan, and VLOC’s tradition of bringing these evergreen productions alive for its audience. It also celebrates the great American traditions of community and musical theater by inviting members of civic theater companies from around the country to join together and display their musical talent and experience.

Tickets cost $28 for adults; $24 for seniors (65 and older); and $20 for students.

“Diary of Anne Frank,” presented by Rockville Little Theatre.

8 p.m. Sept. 28 and 29, and Oct. 5 and 6; 2 p.m. Sept. 30 and Oct. 7.

This new adaptation brings us into the secret annex where 13-year-old Anne and seven other Jews evade Nazi deportation. With this performance, Anne’s compelling words come alive and urge us to stand up for one another in the face of intolerance, fear and hate. Written by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. Adapted by Wendy Kesselman.

Tickets for adults cost $22, and $20 for seniors (62 and older) and students.

The theater is located at 603 Edmonston Drive. Buy tickets at www.rockvillemd.gov/theatre, 240-314- 8690 or in person at the box office.
