The Marquis de Lafayette will be the focus in the latest installment of the Glenview Mansion and Peerless Rockville Speaker Series.
The free, in-person presentation will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9 at Glenview Mansion at Rockville Civic Center Park, 603 Edmonston Drive.
Patricia Maclay, a lifetime member of the American Friends of Lafayette and member of its Governing Board, explores Lafayette’s 1824-25 farewell tour of America for the 67-year-old Frenchman’s triumphant return to the county he loved as the last surviving major general of the American Revolution.
His trip covered over 6,000 miles by carriage, stagecoach, canal barge and steamboat, across all 24 existing states and “Washington City.” Maclay’s presentation will also cover how the tour is being celebrated 200 years later and how everyone will have an opportunity to get involved.
Seating is limited and registration is recommended. Register at www.rockvillemd.gov/registration with course #32189. Learn more at peerlessrockville.org.
