Croydon Creek and Senior Center Mark Milestone Anniversaries

Rockville will mark two big birthdays this year — Croydon Creek Nature Center is 15 and Rockville Senior Center marks its 35th birthday. Both centers will have events in April to celebrate.

Croydon Creek will hold its 15th Annual Spring Festival and Native Plant Sale from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., on Saturday, April 29. The entire family can enjoy hikes, games, crafts, a live animal show, face-painting and the yearly native plant sale. The festival is free to attend, with no registration necessary. Croydon Creek Nature Center is located at 852 Avery Road.

Among several events planned for its anniversary in April, the Senior Center is inviting members and residents on a 35th Anniversary Hero Walk to honor the local police and fire departments, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Friday, April 21. The free-to-join walk is about 2 miles, beginning at the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center (355 Martins Lane), and stopping by the police station on West Montgomery Avenue and fire department on Hungerford Drive to present a thank you card from walkers. Register for the event at the Senior Center’s front desk.

Mardi Gras in April, featuring jazz, wine, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction for charity, also marks the center’s 35th birthday, 7-9 p.m., Thursday, April 27. Dixieland Express will provide the music. Free transportation is available for Rockville residents. Register by April 20. The cost is $20 per person (cash or check only). See the calendar on page 8 or find the calendar  at www.rockvillemd.gov for other event listings.
