Town Center Master Plan Update to Kick Off with Listening Sessions

The City of Rockville will host four interactive listening sessions to kickoff outreach and engagement for the Town Center Master Plan update, which will help guide the area’s success in coming decades.

  • 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 13, Rockville Memorial Library, second-floor meeting room.
  • 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, Rockville Memorial Library, first-floor meeting room.
  • 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, April 22. WebEx virtual meeting.
  • 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 25. WebEx virtual meeting.

The same material will be covered at all listening sessions, so only one needs to be attended.

Light refreshments and a children’s activity area will be available at the in-person sessions.

A master plan is a long-range document that establishes a vision for future growth and development, and makes recommendations for zoning, streetscapes, public infrastructure, and other aspects of land use.

Since the most recent master plan for Rockville Town Center was adopted in 2001, Town Center has evolved into a premier destination and job center. However, retail in the area struggles to compete regionally.

Rockville Town Center comprises about 200 acres of the city, generally bounded by properties along Fleet Street to the south, South and North Washington streets along the west, and the railroad tracks to the east.

The goal of the master plan is to create a cohesive vision for the Town Center area that meets the city’s goals regarding climate action, bicycle and pedestrian safety, and racial equity and social justice.
