The City of Rockville is among 25 cities in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, chosen from an extensive pool of 200 applicants, that have been awarded Asphalt Art Initiative grants through Bloomberg Philanthropies.
In collaboration with VisArts, the city will use the $25,000 Bloomberg grant to integrate artistic elements and asphalt art into a broader roadway improvement project for Beall Avenue.
The new Asphalt Art Initiative projects will be installed in 2024. Each addresses a particular challenge related to pedestrian and cyclist safety in applicant cities.
“The Asphalt Art Initiative has proven that when cities invest in these low-cost projects, streets become safer and communities become stronger,” Bloomberg Philanthropies founder Michael R. Bloomberg said.
