Community members can learn about ongoing transportation safety improvement projects across Rockville as the city hosts public meetings this spring.
The projects are part of the city’s Vision Zero Action Plan to eliminate traffic-related deaths and serious injuries. Visit the city’s online calendar, at www.rockvillemd.gov/calendar, for details on how to join the virtual public meetings described below, where city residents, visitors and interested stakeholders can learn, ask questions and submit comments about the projects.
A virtual meeting from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 12 will focus on an ongoing study of the preferred alignment and design of bicycle lanes and facilities along Martins Lane, from Mannakee Street to North Washington Street. Last year, the city received a $52,000 grant for project design through the Maryland Department of Transportation Kim Lamphier Bikeways Network Program.
A virtual meeting from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9 will present findings from a Complete Streets feasibility study for Mannakee Street, funded by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments’ Transportation Land-Use Connections Program. The Complete Streets approach can reduce speeding vehicles by identifying potential improvements for motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists and transit users.
The city’s ongoing effort to develop new guidelines for pedestrian crosswalks and other pedestrian improvements — another COG-funded project, through the Regional Roadway Safety Program, will be the focus of a virtual meeting from 6:30-7:30 Tuesday, April 16.
Other public meetings, at dates and times to be determined this spring, will include a discussion of the Beall Avenue Complete Streets and asphalt art project, and walk-the-block meetings for each segment in the second group of sidewalk feasibility studies. The city is seeking community input about the asphalt art portion of the Beall Avenue project through an online survey. Learn more about the sidewalk studies at rockvillemd.gov/sidewalks.
