Save Energy — and Money — with These Energy-Efficiency Tips for Summer

Small energy-saving habit changes and upgrades can help you save money, be cool and stay comfortable all summer long. Try these when the weather gets warm:

Set it and forget it.
Using a programmable or smart thermostat can keep your home cool when you need it — and help you avoid running your air conditioner when you don’t.

Cool down with a fan. Fans keep air circulating, allowing you to raise the thermostat a few degrees to stay just as comfortable while reducing air conditioning costs.

Close your shades. Sunlight passing through windows heats your home and makes your air conditioner work harder. Keeping blinds or drapes closed on sunny days helps block this heat.

Replace filters as needed.
Dirty air filters make your air conditioner work harder to circulate air. By cleaning or replacing the filters monthly, you can improve energy efficiency and reduce costs.
