Allies for Equity

GARE Training

Rockville’s Mayor and Council, city leadership, and leadership from Rockville Economic Development, Inc. attended Government Alliance on Race and Equity training on Monday, March 11 at VisArts in Rockville Town Square.

The GARE training introduced roles, responsibilities and opportunities for government to advance racial equity. Participants explored the history of race, implicit and explicit bias, and individual, institutional and structural racism and how it impacts government.

Attendees gained skills to identify and address institutional and structural racism, and increased their capacity to advance racial equity. Staff introduced an equity tool that will be used in decisions relating to the city’s policies, practices, programs and budget.
