Budget Brainstorming: City Offers Early Opportunities to Speak Out

Public Hearing to be Held and New Online Tool to
Debut in October

The Mayor and Council are once again asking the community to help the city prioritize what matters most as it embarks on its Fiscal Year 2019 budget process.

Public hearings are part of the Mayor and Council meetings on Monday, Oct. 16 and Monday, Nov. 13, and will give community members their first chance to weigh in as the city begins gathering input to develop the operating budget and Capital Improvements Program for FY 2019, which begins July 1. Anyone wishing to testify should call 240-314-8280 before 4 p.m. on the hearing date to have their names placed on the speakers’ list.

The city will launch a new online tool on Tuesday, Oct. 17 that will allow the community to select their top budget priorities, offer suggestions for budget reductions and describe ideas for decreasing costs or improving operational efficiencies. During the budget process, staff will compile the online submissions and periodically submit them for the Mayor and Council’s review and consideration.

The Mayor and Council are scheduled to adopt the FY 2019 budget in May. For more information and a link to submit ideas for the budget once it goes live on Oct. 17, visit www.rockvillemd.gov/budget or call the Finance Department at 240-314-8400.
