The Fourth of July is a time to celebrate. But leave the fireworks to the professionals.
The private use and possession of fireworks, including sparklers, is illegal in Montgomery County and carries a fine of up to $1,000 and/or six months in jail. Public firework displays require proper permits and insurance.
Fireworks were involved in an estimated 9,700 injuries and eight deaths in 2023 in the United States, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in its 2023 Fireworks Annual Report. Of those, an estimated 6,400 injuries (66%) took place in the weeks surrounding the July Fourth holiday.
