New Facility will Accommodate Maintenance and Emergency Operations Services
The City of Rockville on Friday completed the purchase of 6 Taft Court in Rockville, a 64,995-square-foot, three-story building on 2.29 acres of land, where the city will relocate the city’s maintenance and emergency operations from the Gude Drive Maintenance Facility on Rothgeb Drive.
The operations have outgrown the current facility on Rothgeb Drive, which is aging, too small and does not meet accessibility standards. The original structure was not designed to accommodate maintenance and emergency operations services.
The city paid $5.88 million for the property to the former owner, M8 Property Group, LLC — $220,000 less than the appraised value.
The building will accommodate services that include snow removal, street maintenance, recycling and refuse, parks and facilities maintenance, as well as water, sewer and stormwater maintenance, and other public services.
The property is located at the far eastern end of Taft Court, adjacent to the city’s maintenance yard at 14625 Rothgeb Drive. The building at 6 Taft Court provides direct access to 14625 Rothgeb Drive, where other city maintenance, emergency operations and storage will remain.
