Rockville Recognized for Award-Winning Comprehensive Plan

Comprehensive Plan

The City of Rockville has been awarded an American Planning Association Award from the APA’s National Capital Area Chapter for Excellence in Planning for the city’s recently adopted Rockville 2040 Comprehensive Plan.

The award highlights the significant and successful efforts of the Mayor and Council, Planning Commission, staff and community, along with numerous other stakeholders, to produce a document that lays out Rockville’s vision for its future.

More than 1,000 people took part in the plan’s creation at more than 100 community meetings and workshops, public outreach events and listening sessions.

The plan highlights principles of equity and inclusivity, and is innovative, visually appealing, and developed with achievable goals.

The plan describes the core philosophy that guides development, conservation and capital improvement projects to improve quality of life in the community.

During the life of the plan’s 20-year time frame, decisions on land-use issues and budget priorities will be guided by how they conform to the plan.
