Wheels of a bike

Get ready to ride as Rockville gears up for Bike to Work Day and Bike Month in May.

Rockville Bicycle Advisory Committee Bike Month Kickoff Ride: Sunday, May 4

Meet at 10 a.m. at City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave. Join Rockville officials and neighbors to celebrate National Bike Month. Pedal a casual 6-mile loop along multi-use trails and quiet residential streets to explore some of the city’s extensive and diverse bicycling infrastructure. The route includes a few paths, bridges and tunnels.

National Bike and Roll to School Day: Wednesday, May 7

Start a celebration or event at your school! Visit www.walkbiketoschool.org or check with your school to see how you can join in. Remember: Montgomery County requires anyone under age 18 to wear a bicycle helmet when riding or being carried on a bicycle, including a bicycle with training wheels, on a public street, in right of way, or on a sidewalk or bicycle path.

National Bike to Work Day: 6:30 a.m. Thursday, May 15

Registration is now open at www.biketoworkmetrodc.org for all 15 Montgomery County pit stops, including at Thomas Farm Community Center, 700 Fallsgrove Drive, and a new stop at 36 Maryland Ave. at The Square in Rockville Town Center. Pit stops will have free snacks, beverages and bicycling giveaways while supplies last, and free T-shirts for the first 18,000 people in the Washington metropolitan region to register and stop by.

Rockville Pedestrian Advocacy Committee Rollins Avenue Walk ’n’ Roll: Thursday, May 15

Meet at 6 p.m. at the Evelyn Drive and Rollins Avenue intersection and join RPAC and city staff for a community walk ’n’ roll along Rollins Avenue to Rockville Pike. Discuss pedestrian concerns and learn about ongoing city projects to improve the pedestrian environment.
