Painting the Plow to Prevent Pollution

Campers in Croydon Creek Nature Center’s Conservation Service Learning program in July designed and painted an environmentally friendly message on a snowplow blade used by Department of Public Works trucks. The “Don’t Be Salty, Save Our Streams” message seeks to spread the word about protecting our wildlife and environment by using less salt to treat icy driveways and sidewalks.

Campers learned how using more salt isn’t always effective and lead to higher levels of salt in the region’s drinking water supply. Learn how to be “salt smart” this winter at RockvilleReports.com/salt-smart. And, when it snows, look for the plow in action, helping to clear a city street near you.
