A finalized “Rockville’s Pike Neighborhood Plan” is scheduled for a decision by the Mayor and Council at their Monday, Aug. 1 meeting.
Mayor and Council meetings held May 23, June 6 and June 13 generated numerous updates and edits to a draft plan approved in March by the city’s Planning Commission. Parts of the plan reviewed included the Rockville Pike cross section, the pedestrian and bicycle environment, community centers and indoor spaces, parks and open space, building heights, affordable housing, mixed uses and other topics.
Under state law, the Mayor and Council have until Wednesday, Aug. 10 to make a final decision on the plan. They could amend and approve the plan, send the plan back to the Planning Commission for additional work, reject it or take no action. If no action is taken by Aug. 10, the plan is automatically adopted as part of the comprehensive master plan.
Monday, Aug. 1 is the last Mayor and Council meeting before summer break, and the last opportunity to make a decision on the plan.
Planning staff will incorporate amendments into a revised document that the Mayor and Council will consider Monday, July 18.
