Rockville Readies EV Readiness Plan for January Debut

EV charging port

Rockville’s Electric Vehicle Readiness plan is nearly ready for its release.

The draft plan is tentatively scheduled to be released Friday, Jan. 10.

Community members will be able to read the plan, provide comments and get all their questions answered about EVs and EV charging at engagerockville.com/evplan.

The plan will help identify how the city can work with county, state and federal programs toward rapid adoption of electric vehicles, identifying where EV chargers are needed and recommending actions to support equitable charging access amid a growing demand. That includes identifying policy and permitting needs that communicate the benefits and incentives available, installing grant-funded public chargers, and converting fleet vehicles. Electric vehicles cost less to operate, produce no exhaust, improve air quality and health, and — according to drivers of EVs in the city’s fleet — are a delight to operate. The EV plan will also help Rockville achieve the goals of its Climate Action Plan. Learn more about the Climate Action Plan at www.rockvillemd.gov/climate.
