Celebrate the Fourth Safely

Sparkler

The Fourth of July is a time to celebrate. But leave the fireworks to the professionals.

The private use and possession of fireworks, including sparklers, is illegal in Montgomery County and carries a fine of up to $1,000 and/or six months in jail. Public fireworks displays require proper permits and insurance.

Fireworks were involved in an estimated 10,200 injuries in 2022 in the United States, according to a study by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Of those, 73% took place in the month surrounding the July Fourth holiday.

Find the CPSC study and tips for firework safety on the CPSC website. Learn more about fireworks in Montgomery County. To report illegal fireworks, call the Rockville City Police Department’s non-emergency line at 240-314-8900.
